Key Insights from Task to Result

Task

Joseph Martin recognises that its investments and innovations allow it to meet the industrial challenges of tomorrow. However, a successful outcome of this premise relies upon the astute selection of optimal technologies. In the 1990s, the company wanted to commence a programme of investment that would set it on a course of automated production in support of growing customer demand.

Solution

In 1990, Joseph Martin invested in its first FANUC machine, a ROBOCUT wire EDM, followed soon after by FANUC ROBODRILL milling machines. Furthermore, Joseph Martin today has numerous FANUC six-axis robots on site performing key assembly and part transfer operations.

Result

Much of Joseph Martin’s production now features FANUC automation, both for machining and assembly operations. Providing enhanced productivity, repeatability and cost-efficiency over many years, the company reports an extremely low failure rate across its entire suite of FANUC products. The company also praises FANUC’s highly reactive and competent service team on the rare occasions it requires support.

Automate to Accumulate

“In 1990 we acquired our first FANUC machine, a ROBOCUT CNC wire EDM, an incredibly reliable product which is still in operation today,” reports Alexandre Pessey, Technical Manager at Joseph Martin. “Through the 1990s we added more CNC machine tools, selecting machines with FANUC control systems, such as Tornos MultiSwiss multi-spindle automatic lathes.”

Today, production at Joseph Martin’s manufacturing facility in Vougy includes modern ROBOCUT wire EDMs, ROBODRILL machining centres and FANUC six-axis robots such as the LR Mate 200𝑖D/7L.

“When we had to automate our own control and assembly machines in 2015, we chose to partner with FANUC for our six-axis robot requirements,” explains Pessey. “We’ve always appreciated the reliability of FANUC products, along with the quality of the company’s aftersales service.”

The site of FANUC France in Marnaz happens to be less than 3 km from Joseph Martin’s Vougy headquarters.

“Although we see an extremely low failure rate on the entire FANUC range, we enjoy very good reactivity in the rare event of downtime,” says Pessey. “FANUC’s service and repair team are highly responsive and the company is the only manufacturer in its field to maintain the supply of spare parts throughout the lifetime of its machines.”

While Joseph Martin is fortunate enough to enjoy close proximity to a FANUC facility, FANUC Europe excels in technical support and service, regardless of location. The company has approximately 1,000 people dedicated to customer service and repair activities, providing support for as long as the customer uses FANUC products, without time limitation.

A highly satisfied Pessey concludes: “Today I would recommend FANUC for their customer service, product selection advice, repair service and availability of spare parts.”
